Flag of Egypt
In 1984 the golden hawk was replaced by the gold Eagle of Saladin, Egypt's national emblem, centered in the red-white-black tricolour. The colors signify the struggle against occupation, a bright future, and the end of oppression.
Egypt is a transcontinental country spanning northeastern Africa and the Sinai Peninsula of Asia, home to one of the world's oldest and most influential civilisations, which flourished for over 3,000 years along the Nile River. The country is home to iconic ancient monuments including the Pyramids of Giza, the only surviving wonder of the ancient world, and the Sphinx. Egypt controls the Suez Canal, one of the world's most strategically vital shipping routes, connecting the Mediterranean and Red Seas.
Population and area are rounded.
Egypt's flag uses the colours of the 1952 revolution: red for the time before the revolution and the struggle against colonial rule, white for the bloodless revolution itself, and black for the end of oppression. The golden Eagle of Saladin was adopted in 1984; earlier versions used two green stars, and then the Hawk of Quraish.
