Tricolor with arms
The vertical blue-yellow-red tricolor was introduced in 1866, its design popularly attributed to Napoleon III, one of Andorra's two co-princes. It was officially codified in 1971 and standardized in 1993.
Andorra is a tiny microstate nestled in the Pyrenean mountains between France and Spain, one of Europe's smallest countries. It has been jointly governed as a co-principality by the French head of state and the Bishop of Urgell since 1278, an arrangement unique in the modern world. Despite its small size, Andorra is a popular destination known for duty-free shopping, skiing, and spectacular mountain scenery.
Population and area are rounded.
Andorra's blue, yellow and red recall its two co-princes: the President of France and the Bishop of Urgell in Catalonia. The coat of arms combines the bishop's mitre and crozier, the red and gold stripes of the counts of Foix and of Catalonia, and the two cows of Béarn, with the motto “Virtus Unita Fortior”, strength united is stronger. The flag's centre band is slightly wider than the other two.
Andorra is a small co-principality in the Pyrenees between France and Spain, ruled jointly since a 1278 agreement known as the paréage. The flag closely resembles those of Romania, Chad and Moldova; Andorra's coat of arms in the centre and its slightly wider yellow band set it apart. A plain version without the arms is also used. Catalan is the only official language, which makes Andorra the only country where Catalan has that status.
